REPLAY! Paula Abdul “Opposites Attract”

[REPLAY! is a weekly feature where we jump in the DeLorean to review an ancient “music video.” It’s like Throwback Thursday except it sounds a lot cooler and doesn’t have a #hashtag.]

Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract” is old enough to drink. The Grammy winning video for the track features The Wild Pair and, most importantly, rapping cartoon characters.

There’s a lot of things to love about this video. Abdul choreographed the moves for the cartoon characters. It was animated by people from Disney. It’s catchy. It’s been featured in everything from Family Guy to Saints Row IV. But that’s not to say it’s not without its flaws.

Abdul’s wardrobe is more ridiculous than the idea of rapping, dancing Kats. But the one thing I really don’t understand is how this music video came out a year after Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Abdul didn’t get Bob Hoskins to make a cameo. Hell, Hoskins probably could have fit in half the clothes that Abdul was wearing during the video.
